LBC Deaths
DRY CREEK – Ricky Gallien, 43, died Sept. 7. Gallien
was pastoring Calvary church in Merryville. He is survived by his wife, Betty,
one daughter and two sons.
MONROE – Earl Mercer, 77, died Sept. 9. Mercer spent
his lifetime of ministry in Louisiana. A graduate of Louisiana College in Pineville
and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, he served as pastor of several
churches throughout the state, including Twelfth Street Baptist Church in Lake
Charles. In 1963, he left there to become director of public relations for the
Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home, a position he held for 28 years. During
that time, Mercer served as interim pastor of numerous churches and traveled
throughout Louisiana to promote the childrens home. He is survived by
his wife, Betty; a son; and a daughter.

Welcome
LAKE CHARLES – John P. White has been called as pastor at First Baptist
Church of Lake Charles. White arrives to lead the Louisiana Baptist congregation
after having served as pastor at Central Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas.
White is a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth,
Texas, where he earned both masters and doctoral degrees. He and his wife, Lou,
have two sons.
