LBC Deaths
ALEXANDRIA – Stella Kyle “Mimsey” Cedars, 88, died Jan. 10.
Cedars served as president at state and associational levels of the Louisiana
Baptist Womans Missionary Union. She is survived by three sons.
SULPHUR – Joe W. Barlett Sr., 91, died Jan. 8. Bartlett was a retired
minister who pastored churches in Louisiana and Mississippi. In 1947, he joined
the faculty of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in the School of Sacred
Music. Bartlett recently was named pastor emeritus of the Sulphur First church,
where he served for 12 years. After retiring in 1976, he served as interim pastor
in at least 18 churches. He is survived by his wife, Roselma Talbot, one son
and three daughters.
SBC Deaths
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Albert McClellan, 91, died Jan. 9. McClellan served
as a pastor before joining The Oklahoma Baptist Messenger newspaper as editor
from 1945-1949. He then worked for the Southern Baptist Executive Committee
for some 30 years, serving as public relations director and as leader of program
planning from 1959 to 1981. In this career, he was instrumental in developing
the 1963 Baptist Faith and Message. In retirement, McClellan taught Baptist
history and polity at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He authored at
least 15 books and hundreds of articles. He was a life member of the Baptist
Communicators Association, whose top annual public relations design award
is named in his honor. He is survived by two sons.
