Persons from across Central Louisiana and elsewhere
in the state gathered at Louisiana College recently to pray for the
future of the school.
More than 300 persons gathered at the Louisiana
Baptist school in Pineville on Feb. 19 to participate in a campus
prayerwalk designed to signal a new day of spirituality fir the college.
“God promised us in 2 Chronicles 20 when we declare,
‘Our eyes are upon thee,’ his reply is, ‘Be not afraid, the battle is
not yours but God’s. Stand ye still and see the salvation of the Lord,
…’” new LC President Joe Aguillard said in announcing plans for the
event earlier this year.
“God’s promises are real and true, and he will bless
our obedience,” Aguillard added. “This call to prayer is a total
acknowledgment that God is in charge of Louisiana College, and our
allegiance to him will bring his blessings upon us.”
Aguillard addressed the gathered participants at the
start of the prayerwalk. Persons then were led in small groups to
various campus sites for times of prayer.
Following those directed sessions, participants
reconvened in the campus student center for a final time of praise and
prayer.
The prayerwalk was one of the first actions
announced by Aguillard after he was elected president in mid-January.
His election marked the end of a sometimes tense 10-month search
process.
Aguillard was elected on a divided vote – and
his selection was opposed by various persons, including many faculty
and alumni.
As president, he immediately began holding dialogue
sessions with various groups in an effort to build bridges. He also
announced plans for the prayerwalk as a means of focusing the school on
God.
Aguillard said he was pleased with the result.
“People from all over the state attended, and the goal of focusing on
prayer and focusing on the authority of Jesus Christ on our campus was
maintained,” he noted.
“As a group of LC supporters, we all came together
to pray for the school. It was a very moving and very spiritual event.
“And we know the Lord will bless it.”
Aguillard said he was pleased with the turnout for the event.
“We had no idea how many people would attend,” he
acknowledged. “So, we were very pleased with those who did.”
Aguillard also said he knew many persons who were
unable to attend the recent prayerwalk but were supporting the school
through prayer nonetheless.
He urged them and others to continue to pray for the school.
“Keep us on their prayer list, and pray for our
well-being and our future and for blessings upon us,” he said.
Aguillard also said he expects the prayerwalk to become an annual event.
