Nine Louisiana Baptists have been nominated or appointed to
serve on various Southern Baptist Convention boards and committees.
The nominations and appointments recently were released in
anticipation of the annual Southern Baptist Convention in St. Louis, set for
June 11-12.
Each year, the convention president is responsible for appointing
persons to serve on various committees, including the Committee on Committees.
This year, SBC President James Merritt named a pair of Louisianians
to serve on the latter committee.
The Committee on Committees is comprised of a pastor and layperson
from each qualified state convention. The committee exists only during the annual
meeting each June and is responsible for nominating persons to serve on the
next years Committee on Nominations.
Louisianas representatives on this years Committee
on Committees are:
Thomas Simmons. Simmons is pastor at Faith Baptist
Church in Baker.
Carlton Vance. Vance is a member at Philadelphia
Baptist Church in Libuse.
In addition, seven Louisianians have been proposed for places
of service by the SBC Committee on Nominations.
Each year, that group is responsible for nominating persons
to fill vacancies on all convention committees and trustee boards.
However, those nominees still must be approved each year by
messengers to the annual convention.
Louisiana nominees include:

second term on the SBC Executive Committee. He is pastor at First Baptist Church
of Mansfield.

in Baton Rouge.

in Baton Rouge.
