IN REMEMBERANCE
Mark Eakin, 58, passed away May 24. Services were held at Trinity Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Bill Saxby (Mark’s friend and pastor) of Trinity Baptist Church, Texarkana, Arkansas, officiating. Interment was at Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Vivian, Louisiana. A graduate of Oklahoma State University spent his adult life in Christian ministry, pastoring churches in Oklahoma and Louisiana. The last sixteen years were devoted to hospice ministry. In 2005, he helped to found Dierksen Memorial Hospice in Texarkana, Texas. He joined the staff of Trinity Baptist Church, Texarkana, as Pastoral Care and worked simultaneously in hospice and church ministry until his death. He is preceded in death by his oldest son James Mark “Marcus” Eakin, Jr., of Bossier City, LA, his parents W. C. and Shawnee Eakin of Shreveport, and his sister Vickie Eakin Rone of Shreveport. He is survived by his wife of nearly 41 years Milda Marie Eakin, son Michael Eakin of Vivian, grandson Jaxon Mark Eakin of Haughton, sister Patti Wise and husband Johnie of Shreveport, brother Steve Eakin and wife Diane of Shreveport, brother Bill Eakin and wife Laurie of Tulsa, OK, and brother Tom Eakin and wife Sherri of Euless, TX, and a host of nieces and nephews.
John Noah Langley, 82, passed away at his residence in Kaplan June 25 after a four-year long battle with Alzheimer’s and a recent blood disorder. Funeral services were held June 30 at Kaplan Baptist Church and he was laid to rest in the Memorial Mausoleum at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Abbeville. A 1954 graduate from Basile High School, he was licensed by the First Baptist Church Basile there in 1956 and was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1957. He attended SLI in Lafayette and graduated from Nichols State University in May of 1964. Langley served as pastor of Gray Baptist Mission, Gibson Baptist Church, Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Ferriday, First Baptist Church in Breaux Bridge, Kaplan Baptist Church, Trinity Baptist Church in New Iberia, and as the associate pastor of First Baptist Church in Abbeville. He also served as clerk and treasurer of the Evangeline Baptist Association in Lafayette for many years. He retired as a full time pastor in 2001, but he continued to conduct weddings, funerals and ministered to the sick and shut-ins. He was also a Chaplain for Hospice of Acadiana and in 2006 he was recognized for his outstanding service by being presented the Dr. Jerome Romagosa award in memory of the founding director. Langley is survived by his daughter, Christie Hargrave and her husband David Hargrave of Kaplan; two grandchildren Taylor Hargrave and his wife, Lauren of Lafayette and Kasey Hargrave of Lake Charles; his twin brother, Rev. John Dore Langley and his wife, Eleanor of Iowa; his sister-in-law, Bonnie Langley of Jennings and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Katherine Ernestine Chandler Langley, his parents Columbus Langley and Marceline Ledoux Langley, his step-mother, Nora Dukes Langley, two brothers, Harold and L.B. Langley, and one sister, Nora Langley.
