Once again, Louisiana College has been recognized as one of the best
college buys in the nation.
Once again, Louisiana College has been recognized as one of the best
college buys in the nation.
The Louisiana Baptist school was one of select institutions
listed in the recently-released Fifth Annual Report of America’s 100
Best College Buys.
It marks one of two recent “best college” lists
on which the Pineville school is included – and may be the most prestigious,
since it is limited to just 100 schools across the nation.
“To be chosen as one of only 100 schools across the
country to be listed in this prestigious publication is a testament to the
quality of Louisiana College’s educational experience,” LC President
Rory Lee emphasized.
“We strive to give our students the very best education
possible at the most affordable rate possible. We are pleased to have our
efforts recognized.”
The 100 “best buys” were selected from more than
1,200 colleges that provide quality, four-year education at a cost lower –
or less than 10 percent higher – than the national average, school officials
explained. The average is calculated from the regular cost at private colleges
and out-of-state cost at public institutions.
Most recent statistics show that the average national cost
of attendance (tuition, fees, room and board) at a four-year school for 2000-2001
is $17,865. In turn, the cost for attending Louisiana College is $10,980,
well below that national average.
In addition, the recent study showed that the average high
school grade point average for freshmen entering college in 1999 was 3.24.
At Louisiana College, the high school grade point average
for its 1999 freshman class was 3.3, higher than the national mark.
That is not the only honor recently recorded by the Pineville
school.
In addition to its “best buy” designation, Louisiana
College also is listed in the recently-released U.S. News and World Report’s
2001 Edition of America’s Best Colleges.
All in all, 42 of the 55 schools in the Association of Southern
Baptist Colleges and Schools are included on the U.S. News and World Report
list.
The magazine list ranks schools in four categories –
national universities, national liberal arts colleges, regional universities
and regional liberal arts colleges. The regional categories are broken down
into North, Midwest, South and West subcategories.
Ten of the Baptist schools were included in the top tier
of institutions in their respective categories. Eleven others were listed
in the second tier, while 12 were cited in the third tier and nine were included
in the fourth.
Louisiana College was listed as a regional liberal arts school.
All in all, 429 schools were ranked in the regional liberal arts colleges
category – broken down into the four geographic regions.
Louisiana College was included in the South region, where
it ranked 29th, placing it in the top tier.
