PINEVILLE – Louisiana College is expanding to Shreveport.
Summer Grove Baptist Church, which meets in a renovated mall, has
offered its facilities to an expansion of LC’s program in the northern
part of the state.
“The partnership is a natural one,” said Charles Rey-nolds, church
administrator. “We have the same focus on Christian education and are
sollidly behind the direction of the college.”
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools gave the go-ahead last
March to the college to establish off-campus centers where high school
students could get a head start on their college careers.
Course objectives and materials are the same as that taught on the LC
campus, and faculty have the same credentials as required by SACS in
teaching on-campus courses.
“Other institutions around the state and nation are doing the same
thing,” said Joe Aguillard, LC president. “By instituting this program,
we are providing an offering commensurate with other prominent
institutions.”
The LC board of trustees met informally at Summer Grove Shreveport
earlier this summer to make sure the property would meet its needs.
“We are excited about this tremendous opportunity to impact another
part of our state,” said Tim Johnson, chairman of the LC trustees and
pastor at First Baptist Choudrant. “I commend this administration
and the staff of Summer Grove Baptist Church for all of the hard work
in getting everything in order. Louisiana College is serious
about growth and seeking other areas where we can provide a
top-quality, liberal arts education that is distinctively Christian.”
Qualified high school seniors – those with a 3.0 GPA and letter of
recommendation from their high school principal – can earn as
many as six hours of approved college course work per semester during
the fall and/or spring semester.
Cost: $330 per three-credit hour course, plus books.
Courses are available this fall in math, English, history, education,
psychology, art and religion; each must have at least six students.
Interested students should call Admissions Counselor Ronnie LaLande at
318-487-7259 immediately. Orientation at Summer Grove Shreveport starts
at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24 at Entrance 2, Banquet Hall location.
Prospective students are advised to be prepared to pay tuition and purchase textbooks at Orientation.
“Louisiana College is the home of unchanging foundations in changing
times,” Aguillard said, using the words of the school’s new motto.
“We’re excited to be offering this new opportunity to Shreveport’s high
school seniors.”
Louisiana College would be interested in establishing similar centers across the state, the president said.
Churches interested in serving as LC sites should contact LaLonde
in the Office of Admissions at Louisiana College: 318-487-7259.
