on the faculty at Louisiana College. LC is recognized as one of the top small

We feel that every year we recruit and attract some of the best and the brightest
high school seniors to pursue their college education here. Our graduates are
sought after because of the reputation established over the years; students
from this institution are highly motivated, disciplined, productive, and reflect
Christian
character and values in their respective fields of work. We are pleased and
gratified by their accomplishments, achievements, and overall success in life.
Critical to the attracting, developing and then sending of high quality students
is attracting, securing, and developing the best faculty available. Those who
teach here provide the professional expertise, academic excellence and Christian
worldview that enhance and stimulate our students to exceed mediocrity and succeed
in life. It is out desire and prayer that in the process of deciding on teaching
at our school that we all will
clearly discern Gods will and that the end result will be a “fit”
that will result in a long and rewarding
experience here at LC.
There are many aspects of the process that will be examined that are very important
to us from your
educational background, teaching experience, and pedagogical skills to your
personal interaction with both students and faculty. One area that is foundational
to serving at LC is concerning your basic belief system
and worldview. We are a Christian liberal arts school but above everything
else, we feel it is important that “Christian” be clearly evident
in all aspects of our campus life, extracurricular experience, and academic
disciplines. Every teacher should be able to articulate and communicate to their
students in their subject
areas; but equally as well, to integrate their faith in their discipline. Regardless
of ones specific area of
academic study, the individual belief system affects the choice of readings,
perspective, and serves to filter
and direct particular issues and concepts in classroom lectures and research.
Louisiana College is owned and operated by cooperating Southern Baptist churches
in Louisiana under
the auspices of the Louisiana Baptist Convention. The convention is a cooperating
member of the national
body known as the Southern Baptist Convention. Over the years our denomination
has adopted a statement
of faith that reflects our disbelief system based upon the Bible and this document
is called The Baptist Faith
and Message. Enclosed you will find a copy of the Baptist Faith and Message
for you to read carefully and indicate your response to the stated beliefs of
our convention. Not every person who teaches at LC is required to be a Southern
Baptist but every teacher must reflect a certain faithfulness to teach within
the doctrinal tenets of our convention. We also feel that every teacher should
reflect a Christian worldview regardless of
his or her particular field of study.
We ask that you write out in as much detail as you would like your personal
understanding of a Christian worldview. Please include in their statement your
perspective on the sanctity of human life, the sanctity of marriage and family,
and your belief on creation. After that, please read the doctrinal statements
in The Baptist Faith and Message and indicate your response to these statements.
Please attach the statement of your Christian worldview and your perspective
on the sanctity of human life,
the sanctity of marriage and family, and your belief on creation.
The President, Vice-President of academic affairs, and the Academic Affairs
Committee of the Board of Trustees will review the above information, before
any recommendation can be made to the board of trustees concerning employment
at Louisiana College. This letter will also be placed in your permanent file.
Thank you for your interest, understanding, and cooperation concerning this
important part of our “search” process.
