Vibrant, abundant, God-filled … the life of Miss Vivian
By Jerry Love, LBF Communications Editor’s Note: Special thanks to Dr. Jeff Raines, Pastor of FBC Shreveport, for providing much of the information reflected in this article. The first time “Miss Vivian” came to my office several years ago I knew she was special. A very proper and gracious lady, she presented herself in a quiet but determined manner. As she spoke her sparkling eyes lightly danced, as if they were brushing words from an invisible palette and arranging them in phrases to be delivered by her lips. Her words were carefully measured as if each were a denomination of currency not to be overspent. The meaning of her name fit Vivian well: vibrant, full of life. Although she was not boisterous or vigorous she lived her life in her own intentional, resolute and purposeful way. Her desire was for others to know her Savior, Jesus Christ – the Giver of Life. It was no surprise to learn that her educational background was English with a minor in library science. She and her four siblings were raised by hardworking, Christian parents in North Louisiana. They saw to it that all five children received their degrees, taking advantage of the state college in the area. Vivian was the oldest of the children and was known … [Read more...]
Despite threat of ‘severe’ sanctions, students gather to pray for Louisiana College
Submitted by philip on Wed, 03/26/2014 - 13:34 Students, alumni, people from the community gathered to pray for Louisiana College on Monday, March 24 in front of Guinn Auditorium. Because LC officials would allow only students into Guinn to pray, everyone stayed outside in front of the building. The group which began with only 20 swelled to more than 50 during the day. The group -- Prayers for Progress -- finished the day at 5 p.m. just as they had begun it with prayer. By Staff, Baptist Message PINEVILLE – Louisiana College students, alumni, two trustees and members of the community gathered March 24 in front of Guinn Auditorium to pray for the future of the school. The group that organized the prayer event – Prayers for Progress – was calling for LC President Joe Aguillard to resign or be removed by the school’s board of trustees. Organized the week of March 17, the Prayer for Progress group placed fliers at various locations throughout the campus sometime on Wednesday asking students, alumni, faculty and others to join them for a time of prayer. The flyer also used the word “strike” to describe the event. The gathering was slated to begin at 8 a.m. inside Guinn Auditorium. The following day, Thursday, March 20, … [Read more...]

An Open Letter to Louisiana Baptists from Concerned Trustees
A group of current members of the Louisiana College Board of Trustees have issued a joint "Open Letter to Louisiana Baptists" regarding their concerns over issues related to Louisiana College. This is for immediate release and we have chosen to send this to the Baptist Press, the Baptist Message and to The Town Talk of Alexandria, Louisiana. ********************************************************* Dear Louisiana Baptists, The undersigned members of the Board of Trustees of Louisiana College have come to the conclusion that due in part to our fiduciary responsibility to the Louisiana Baptist Convention as duly elected members of the Board of Trustees, and in part to preserve our integrity and testimony before God, our families, and our churches, we are forced to make a public statement regarding our concerns over actions of the administration of Louisiana College. This is a statement that we were ready to make last year upon calling for the resignation or termination of the President of Louisiana College but due, in large part, to the undue influence of the Executive Director of the Louisiana Baptist Convention our actions were derailed and the President remained. The great contribution of Baptists in American history has been … [Read more...]

Recordings question Aguillard’s Calvinism narrative at LC
By Kelly Boggs, Editor PINEVILLE -- Secret recordings made by the former Dean of Louisiana College’s Caskey School of Divinity indicate that LC President Joe Aguillard believed David Hankins, executive director of the Louisiana Baptist Convention, was seeking to advance an anti-Calvinist agenda on LC. Aguillard also believed it was plausible Hankins wanted to oust him from his position at the college so Hankins could install his son as president of LC, the recordings which were made in Aug. 2012 disclose. The recordings were provided by Charles “Chuck” L. Quarles to The Town Talk of meetings he made while employed at the college. The newspaper allowed the Baptist Message to listen to the recordings at the publication’s offices. Voices identified on the recordings, one which lasts just under 37 minutes and another which last 12 minutes and 25 seconds, are of Aguillard, Quarles, Timothy “Tim” Johnson, a former vice-president at LC and Daniel Kirk, administrative assistant to the President The occasion for the longer recording is a meeting where Aguillard says he, Quarles and Johnson need to “get a game plan together” concerning their suspicion that Hankins wanted to further an agenda on LC to remove Calvinists from the … [Read more...]
Leaked documents again fuel fire of controversy at LC
Submitted by philip on Fri, 03/07/2014 - 10:36 LC President Joe Aguillard Editor's Note: Subscribe to the Baptist Message for one week for $1.00 or a full year for $14.00 By Kelly Boggs, Editor PINEVILLE – A spate of leaked documents continues to fuel controversy at Louisiana College. The actual sources of the heretofore confidential information remain anonymous. In just over a week’s time, recently, information from confidential LC trustee meetings, letters from an attorney, a never-filed lawsuit and other documents have been made public. The primary outlet for the leaked information has been Reformed Baptist pastor and blogger J.D. Hall from Montana, who maintains a website where he writes a weblog and offers a regular podcast. Hall has been an outspoken critic of the LC Board of Trustees, LC president Joe Aguillard and Louisiana Baptist Convention Executive Director David Hankins. Executive Committee deals with blackmail attempt The minutes of an Executive Committee Meeting of the Louisiana College Board of Trustees, which was convened on Nov. 15, 2011, were leaked to the public. The occasion of the meeting is what is described in the minutes as an attempt to blackmail the Louisiana College president by his … [Read more...]
LC President reveals employee expectations in secret recording
Subscribe to the Baptist Message for one week for $1.00 or a full year for $14.00 EDITOR’S NOTE: Excerpted from a Town Talk report filed by Leigh Guidry. The original report was edited for space purposes. ALEXANDRIA – Portions of a conversation Jodi Martin, an LC graduate who worked for the school’s recreation sports and graphic services departments, had with Aguillard recently were posted on Faith on View, a blog operated by former Louisiana College art teacher Rondall Reynoso, who has publicly feuded with Aguillard for two years. Martin’s identity was not revealed on the blog, but Aguillard identified her in an interview with The Town Talk. Martin later confirmed she had made the recording. “I didn’t expect it (the story) to be picked up,” Martin said in her first public comments since leaving LC. “I didn’t expect it to be a big deal. I knew it would take time to devote to this, which I was willing to do, but it was safer in the beginning to be anonymous. ... Since it was not going to be anonymous anymore, I felt responsible to provide context.” In the meeting, Aguillard discussed what type of attitude employees should have toward him. “I am the employer, and I sign your contract,” Aguillard said on the recording. “You … [Read more...]
