By CHARLES QUARLES, Chair of Christian Studies, Louisiana College Silent night, holy night, All is calm; All is bright. Round yon virgin mother and child; Holy infant, so tender and mild; Sleep in heavenly peace; Sleep in heavenly peace.[img_assist|nid=6933|title=Charles Quarles|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=75|height=100] This beloved Christmas hymn was written by Joseph Mohr in Germany in the early 1800’s. Its passage reversed a state Supreme Court ruling that had legalized "gay marriage." … [Read more...]
Flourishing, despite persecution
By DON GRAHAM, Baptist Press NORTH AFRICA (BP) – They broke into the church at night to finish the job they’d begun weeks earlier. Hard-line Islamists wanted to shut down a Kabylie church in North Africa that had recently moved into a largely Muslim neighborhood. This time the Islamists poured gasoline over everything – chairs, Bibles, equipment – and set it ablaze. … [Read more...]
