Crossover Triad results in 800 salvations
GREENSBORO, NC – More than 800 people accepted
Christ during Crossover Triad 2006 in June, but the actual details of
these life-changing conversions are only beginning to filter in – true
stories made possible only because hundreds of witnesses in the
Greensboro, High Point and Winston-Salem, N.C., areas shared their faith
Darrel Davis, ministry assistant for Crossover Triad
2006 for the Baptist Convention of North Carolina, said some 2,000
Crossover Triad volunteers played a part in the more than 800 salvation
decisions made during the combined Crossover and ICE initiatives, and
that 26 new churches will be planted because of the effort.
Crossover’s more than 30 evangelistic events were
sponsored jointly by NAMB, the Baptist State Convention of North
Carolina and the 200 SBC churches of the Piedmont, Pilot Mountain and
Central Triad Baptist Associations.
Work has already begun on Crossover 2007, June 9-10,
2007, the weekend before next year’s SBC annual meeting in San Antonio,
Texas. For more information, visit the website at www.crossoversa.org.
IMB kit seeks to get Southern Baptists on mission
RICHMOND, Va. (BP) – The International Mission Board
has developed a new interactive study titled “To the Ends of the
Earth.” This nine-session study – intended for both large groups and
small groups – is based on IMB President Jerry Rankin’s book bearing
the same name and is designed to help churches get every member of
their congregation involved in missions.
Targeted at adults, the study offers practical ways
for individuals to get involved in missions. It also provides an
in-depth look at how the IMB operates, from types of missionary service
to strategy. Divided into a leader kit and member book, each unit of
the study includes a personal introduction from Rankin, video of IMB
missionaries at work around the world and interactive questions to help
participants internalize and apply what they’ve learned.
The interactive study of “To the Ends of the Earth”
is available from both the International Mission Board and LifeWay
Christian Resources. To learn more, contact the IMB at (800) 999-3113
or go online to resources.imb.org; or contact LifeWay at (800) 458-2772

WACO, Texas – With a school-record 13 of its
18 teams participating in postseason play, Baylor recorded its
second-highest finish ever in the final U.S. Sports Academy Directors’
Cup standings with its 32nd-place ranking nationally in 2005-06, which
also placed it fifth among Big 12 institutions.
Last year’s program-best 25th-place finish coupled with this year’s
performance marked Baylor’s best back-to-back finishes ever in the
nation’s all-sports sweepstakes. Stanford won the award for the 12th
consecutive year.
Among the higlights of 2005-06 were conference
titles for its men’s and women’s tennis teams, football’s first
five-win season in a decade and an NCAA individual champion in men’s
track.
World Changers underway with 22,000 volunteers
ALPHARETTA, Ga. – The immediate goals of the
North American Mission Board’s World Changers are to rehabilitate
sub-standard homes and improve neighborhoods in 87 cities this summer.
The ultimate goals are to transform the lives of students and win people to Christ.
Now in its 17th summer of service projects, the 2006
edition of World Changers is in full swing, with 22,000 youth
volunteers committed to 92 projects across the U.S., Puerto Rico and
Canada, according to John W. Bailey, World Changers’ coordinator for
NAMB.
Created in 1990, World Changers is a pre-packaged
mission experience sponsored by NAMB, enabling students – middle
school-aged to college-aged – to donate part of their summer to
rehabilitate sub-standard housing.
At the same time the students are spending a
precious week of their summer vacation hammering nails, painting walls
or re-roofing houses, they’re also developing their mission skills,
growing in their faith and sharing the Gospel, Bailey said.
2006 World Changers efforts also include 16 non-construction community
projects across the country, including Bible clubs for local kids,
surveys for local churches, food and clothing programs for the needy,
and sports and handicapped ministries.
Among the Louisiana cities scheduled to host World
Changers this year are New Orleans, June 10-17, June 17-24, July 1-8,
July 8-15, July 22-29; Baton Rouge, July 15-22; and Shreveport, July
22-29.
