Louisiana Christian University held the 50th Alsup Vocal Competition, March 15, with three outstanding upperclassmen taking top honors. The winners were: first place, Peyton Newton Simon, a senior music education major from Alexandria; second place, Cheyenne Blake, a junior vocal studies major from West Monroe; and third place, A’melia Perkins, a senior vocal studies and graphic design major from Pineville. The Alsup Voice Award was begun by Helen Rougeau in 1972, in memory of former LCU Professor N. C. Alsup as a means of encouraging vocal excellence among students in the Department of Music at Louisiana Christian University.
