PINEVILLE, La. (LBM) —Louisiana College has entered into an agreement to accept coursework completed by students at the Central Louisiana Community and Technical College in Alexandria who transfer to the Louisiana Baptist school.
LC President Rick Brewer and CLCTC Chancellor Jimmy Sawtelle signed a memorandum of understanding Oct. 28 to create a partnership that grants qualified transfer students who have completed general education coursework the opportunity to enter the school as upper classmen.
LC signed a similar agreement with the entire Louisiana Community and Technical College System – of which CLCTC is a part – Jan. 9. There are 13 schools in the system and Louisiana College is extending personal invitations to individual schools, already having signed letters with SOWELA Technical Community College in Lake Charles and Louisiana Delta Community College in Bossier City.
Brewer said the agreement is effective immediately.
“This is just a wonderful time for us to celebrate this partnership of this educational partnership in central Louisiana,” Brewer said. “We are really excited about what they are doing at the school and the growth they are going to experience and how this is going to help our college in the future and help central Louisiana. We believe it will have results immediately, and then more so long term into the future, as their students will also be eligible to participate in our dual enrollment programs too, taking some of those classes from us as well.”
Sawtelle, whose daughter, Maria, is a nursing student at LC, echoed the thought.
“This is a blessing not only for our college but for our students,” he said. “(Dr. Brewer and I) came on at the same time and it was an instant partnership and friendship. For him to take CLTCC along for the ride not only in the partnership but also creating this for the students, it’s more than we can say. Thank you to the LC family. Thank you for welcoming CLTCC and our Bobcat family here with open arms.”
Louisiana College and the CLCTC also announced they have partnered to offer an “Academic Achievement Award” for qualified members of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, the scholarship will be considered a “gap scholarship” to help make up the difference in financial shortfall among tuition, mandatory fees, and awarded financial aid. The gap scholarship will not exceed $5000 annually or $2500 per semester.
