PINEVILLE (LCNews) — Louisiana Baptists have much to celebrate regarding how the Lord is blessing Louisiana College. Increases in enrollment and the donor base, as well as more degree offerings in undergraduate and graduate programs are but a few examples.
“Our leadership team and the support of our Louisiana Baptist family have facilitated these blessings,” said Louisiana College President Rick Brewer.
Another contributing factor is the intentionality of regularly visiting LBC churches with Brewer, the Voices of LC, and other leaders from the Office of Admissions, who bring a display booth and promotional materials for parents and prospective students to learn more about LC. This comprises an “LC Day” in the local church.
“Never before has our culture needed more of a Christian influence in the marketplace,” Brewer said. “This is our primary motivation with LC Day, and that is for all to see why high school students and their parents should give serious attention to Louisiana College.”
“There is no other college or university in this state more capable of helping young students discover what Colossians 2:3 proclaims: that in Christ Jesus are ‘hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge,’” Brewer said. “Any other curriculum not built upon a Christian worldview is incapable of uncovering these hidden treasures. Other institutions teach the ‘what,’ but we teach the ‘why’ of what lies behind life’s great questions.”
Several churches already have sponsored an LC Day, and here is what pastors and church leaders are saying:
“Cypress Baptist Church had the privilege of hosting an LC Day at our church. I say honor because it is so exciting to see what God is doing through our Louisiana College. As a pastor it is important I give my congregation the opportunity to hear about one of the best college choices in America right here in Louisiana. Dr. Brewer and his team knocked it out of the park in both our services and our people loved having them with us. His message and the Voices of LC singers were amazing. I highly recommend having them in your church to promote LC and to be blessed by a great service” – John Fream, pastor.
Steve Horn, pastor of FBC Lafayette, stated: “We have just had our second LC Day, consisting of Dr. Brewer preaching, Voices of Louisiana College singing, and a luncheon for prospective students and their parents. The question might be raised, ‘Why have LC Day in your church?’ I could easily ask the opposite question. ‘Why would we not have LC Day?’ Why wouldn’t we want to expose our church to a great Louisiana Baptist Convention Cooperative ministry? Why wouldn’t we want to expose our students and encourage their strong consideration of Louisiana College after high school? In the end, Dr. Brewer encouraged our people through preaching the Word, and Voices are outstanding representatives of Louisiana College.”
Jay Johnston of FBC Covington noted, “Our LC day helped our members see first-hand how their Cooperative Program Dollars are working in the lives of students who are receiving an excellent education while having an emphasis on spiritual matters.”
Pastor of FBC Rayville Eddie Wren, who is president of the Louisiana Baptist Convention, said: “I recommend that any church should host an LC day. Our congregation was encouraged by and worshipped with the Voices of LC. Also, we were thankful to hear a word from the Scriptures through Dr. Brewer. We have hosted an LC day the last couple of years and will continue to do so.”
With next academic year’s schedule in the planning stages, now is the best time to book an LC Day in your church. Please email Reagan.watkins@lacollege.edu, or call 318.487.7326 to reserve your place on the LC Day calendar.
