BATON ROUGE – The United States is a nation in crisis.
Christians concerned for the direction in which the country is headed plan to gather on the campus of LSU in Baton Rouge on Jan. 24 for a day of prayer.
Called for by Gov. Bobby Jindal, The Response Louisiana will take place from 10 am to 4 pm at the Pete Maravich Center and will include people of all ages, denominations and ethnic and racial backgrounds whose purpose is the same – fasting and praying for a historic breakthrough in the country.
The event is free but participants are encouraged to register for tickets, as seating will be limited, at theresponsela.com. Those wishing to promote or volunteer at the event can also receive more information at the event website.
Louisiana Baptist leaders emphasize the importance of this day of prayer in the state.
“You will be blessed,” Louisiana Baptist Executive Director David Hankins said on his video invitation that appeared on The Response Facebook page. “God will come down. And we’re praying that the state and the nation will be changed.”
In a YouTube video by long-time KTBS reporter Rick Rowe, Fred Lowery, retired pastor of First Baptist Church in Bossier City, said The Response is “the most exciting thing that I have run across, probably in my lifetime. … And I believe with all my heart, just like the governor, that the only hope for America is for revival, spiritual revival.”
Last year, Jindal met with 72 ministers, laymen and others at the Louisiana Governor’s Mansion to plan the event. At the event, Jindal shared his testimony and the desperate need for prayer in the country.
In a written invitation that was posted on the event website, Jindal asked churches to respond to a call to prayer for the US.
“I believe America is in great need,” Jindal said in his invitation to the event. “Leadership will not come from a politician or a movement for social change. We are in need of spiritual and transforming revival, if we are to recapture the vision of our early leaders who signed on the Mayflower ‘In the name of God for the advancement of the Christian faith.’
“These are historic and defining times, a new world order of chaos is being driven by militant Islam seeking to impose Sharia Law worldwide,” he continued. “Our nation is faced with fatherless homes, an epidemic of drugs and crime in our inner cities, a saturation of pornography, abortion, racism – Jesus Christ, Son of God and the Lord of Life, is America’s only hope. We need Spiritual Transformation.”
