Ten persons with Louisiana ties recently were appointed as overseas workers by the Southern Baptist International Mission Board.

Elliott and Pat Parks Nichols will work among the Wolof people
of West Africa. The couple will engage in church starts in an effort to spark
a church-planting movement in the highly Islamic region. He is a graduate of
New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Since 1996, Nichols has served as
mission pastor at Grace Community Baptist Mission in New Orleans.

Quintin and Kim Noble Ratliff will work to evangelize and disciple
college students in northern Thailand. The former Kim Noble is daughter of Bonnie
Noble of the Baton Rouge area and the late Eli Noble. She is a graduate of Louisiana
Tech University in Ruston. She says her call to missions was confirmed by God
during a World Missions Conference at Louisiana College. Churches the couple
considers influential in their Christian growth include Zoar Baptist Church
in Baton Rouge and Temple Baptist Church in Ruston.
Dan and Michelle Elgin Russell will live in Baguio City, Philippines,
where he will teach courses and seminars, primarily in the field of missions.
He also will lead training sessions for pastors who cannot attend the classes.
She will engage in home and church evangelism. Since 1998, he has served as
pastor at Emmaus Baptist Church in Tickfaw. He previously served as youth pastor
of Central Baptist Church in Gonzales. He is a graduate of New Orleans Baptist
Theological Seminary.
Donnie and Lori Aulds Starkey will work among the youth of
Paraguay. He will mentor youth and youth teams in the areas of evangelism, discipleship
and church planting. She will assist her husband and conduct home outreach.
He is a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and currently serves
as youth pastor for Elysian Fields Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans.
Jeff and Karen Griffin Thomas will work with gang members in Honduras. The
former Karen Griffin was born in DeRidder and is the daughter of John and Sue
Griffin of Monroe. She is a graduate of University of Louisiana in Monroe. The
couple also considers Summer Grove Baptist Church in Shreveport as influential
in their Christian growth.
