Like “Joe the Plumber” of the 2008 Presidential election, “the elephant in the room” has easily become the most recognized phrase in Southern Baptist life.
After attending the Southern Baptist Convention in New Orleans, my greatest reflection is that now that there is wide-spread agreement that we need to have a discussion about the elephant in the room – which is the issue of Calvinism in the SBC – we now need to identify exactly what needs to be addressed about the elephant in the room.
In having a conversation about the elephant in the room, what exactly are we are going to have a conversation about? I believe there has been a failure or a resistance to articulate clearly the point of the conversation. The full content of this page is available to Baptist Message subscribers only.
