“Journey On is not a one-time campaign or program. And it’s not a Bible study or small group. Rather, it’s a church-wide strategy designed to meet you right where you are on your spiritual journey, help make you a disciple of Jesus, and move you forward to a Christ-centered life.”
This quote is from Steve Layton, Minister of Education at Brentwood Baptist Church in Nashville, who recently spoke at the Louisiana Baptist Christian Education Association’s (LBCEA) annual meeting during the annual Louisiana Baptist Convention State Meeting on Nov. 12, at First Baptist Church West Monroe.
About 30 ministers of education from across the state met for lunch, fellowship, and to hear how Steve has led his church to become intentional in discipleship.
The purpose of the LBCEA is to promote sound Christian education by providing a network of fellowship, training, encouragement, and inspiration for Christian educators throughout the state.
Membership is open to person engaging in any phase of Christian education work with: local churches, associations, Louisiana Baptist Convention, Louisiana College, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary; Christian education students in colleges and seminaries; and retired persons from this chosen field.
Active membership in the group is just $20 per year.
The LBCEA meets three times a year: in November during the State Convention, in January at the Evangelism Conference, and a spring retreat in March.
Clif Smith, minister of education for First Baptist Church Covington will lead an open table discussion at the LBCEA dinner at the Evangelism Conference.
The discussion will be based upon topics that have been emailed in prior to the event.
Email any topics you would like discussed to Jeff.Ingram@LBC.org, and Clif Smith will develop the discussion around the topics received. The format being used allows everyone to ask questions and learn from the experience of others in the group.
Following the open table discussion, a dinner is to take place from 4:45 – 6:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, at First Baptist Church Lafayette. The cost is $10 per person.
The annual “retreat” in March 2013 will be a one-day conference in two locations to be more accessible to participants.
LifeWay’s Ken Marler will be speaking on, “How to Grow Your Church Through Sunday School and Small Group Ministry.”
The two locations are: March 7, Brookwood Baptist Church, Shreveport; and March 8, BCM building at LSU, Baton Rouge.
Current officers include: Clif Smith, President, FBC Covington; Henry Richerson, President-Elect, Emmanuel BC, Shreveport; Rick Ellis, Vice-President, Trinity BC, Lake Charles, and Jeff Ingram, LBC Representative, Alexandria.
To join LBCEA, register for events, and to submit your topics for discussion at the Jan. 28th dinner, please visitwww.LBC.org/LBCEA.
