WEST MONROE – Ouachita Baptist Church completed this midsummer an addition to its fellowship hall that provides – with flexible walls – up to four classrooms, plus storage space and two restrooms. Dennis Hensley Jr. is pastor.
RUSTON/DEVILLE – Temple Baptist in Ruston on Sept. 9 opened its new preschool and children’s building, to be known as “The Journey Place.” Rick Byargeon is pastor and Sally Hearn, minister of childhood education. Philadelphia Baptist in Deville has a new preschool building for youngsters birth to age 5. Philip Robertson is pastor; Andrew Orr, children’s minister; Pam Keith, preschool director.
MONROE – Calvary Baptist in Monroe is to host a Car Show and Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15. Vehicle registration is free. COVINGTON – “Golden Needles” is the name of a group of women at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church who meet Thursdays to sew. Since March 2011 they have made 600 baby diapers for a Zimbabwe mission endeavor out of Pineville. Led (and sometimes trained) by Nancy Brocklehurst, they now also are making baby blankets for Zimbabwe and lap quilts for a local nursing home. DRY PRONG – New Prospect Baptist Church, where Michael Shamblin is pastor, recently completed a mile walk on its property through a meadow for the community. A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the walking trail and playground equipment is set for 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at 111 Prospect Church Road in Dry Prong. The festival-like activities are to include a fun run, bicycle parade, food, games, face painting and pony rides, as well as vendors selling a variety of food, crafts and jewelry. MANY – The former Hope Baptist Church, just north of Walmart on Hwy 171 in Many, is becoming a multi-purpose ministry center for District Eight Baptist Convention, where Lee Dickson is director of missions. “It has a great history, and a bright future,” Dickson said. The building is to be used as a second missions office and a meeting place for prayer, training, ministry events and fellowship.
