BOSSIER CITY – Elm Grove Baptist Church hosted a grand opening and dedication service for its new food pantry ministry on Sunday, March 7. The dedication service marked the official launch of the new ministry that was five months in the making.

Our members were eager for a ministry that provided a tangible benefit to the community in Jesus’ name.”
Several area families received help from the food pantry even before the official start of the ministry. “Word got around about what we were doing and we were excited to help meet those needs,” the pastor said.
The food pantry ministry received a significant amount of its initial food stock from the members of Koran Baptist Church in Haughton. In addition, the Northwest Louisiana Baptist Association provided a start-up grant of $400, and $2,000 was received from Grace Baptist Fellowship, a Bossier City mission congregation that disbanded in October 2009.
Additional cash and food donations have come in from several individuals wanting to support the ministry, Prucey said.
The ministry center is located in a 2,100-square foot, double-wide manufactured home located next to Elm Grove, and has enough room to host other ministry efforts, the pastor said. “Eventually, we would like to add a crisis clothes closet,” Prucey said.
Food pantry service hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until noon.
Tax-deductible donations of food inventory and cash contributions can be made by contacting Elm Grove Baptist Church at 318-747-0089 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Volunteers wanting to help in the food ministry also are encouraged to call.
Elm Grove Baptist Church, established in 1941, is located at 8180 Barksdale Blvd. in Bossier City. The mission of Elm Grove Baptist Church is to help people encounter the grace of God by building faith, giving hope and showing love, the pastor said.
